Cameroon Slam Telecommunication Firms with Heavy Fines

Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Agency ART, has meted out fines on four telecommunications Company in the country (MTN, Orange, Camtel, Nexttel), for the legislation governing subscribers’ identification and the required radio frequency.

At least a CFA3 billion fine and a one-year reduction on their licences was meted out meach on three of the operators, according to sources from the regulatory board.

Meanwhile CAMTEL, the state-owned telecommunications company was dished out a lesser fine of CFA300 million.

In a review report at the end of September 2017 made public, MTN International said it had lodged an appeal to the regulatory body regarding the reduction of the fine.
